August 10 Vina De Martino

Our last visit was to one of the many Chilean vinas. The export manager Axel Vade explained exporting techniques and trends in the industry. The business is located outside of Santiago. The further we went from Santiago, the more poor subsidized housing we saw.
Tomorrow morning we'll check out of the hotel, and our bus will take us for a few hours to the Andes Mountains. In the evening, we will depart for Kansas.

Sales: Consequence of a job well done...

Today we visited Komax, a major brand manager for retail in Chile. They manage brands such as Ralph Lauren, Quiksilver, and Brooks Brothers. The beautiful facility was very minimalist and absolutely non-traditional by Chilean standards.

An interesting takeaway from this meeting was the meaning behind the title of this blog post. Our host, Nicolas Arancibia (also a well known Chilean rugby player), presented a concept true in all organizations - success is a result of well communicated strategy and sales is a consequence of a job well done. He voiced that if he is to increase sales in his organization, he needs to know the strategy and how he can utilize resources.

This isn't rocket science, but it was refreshing to hear that communication of strategy is not just a challenge in the U.S. I'm sure our students representing large organizations can relate. The way our speaker presented it was very simple and appropriate, which is consistent with all of our speakers on this tour. The longer we stay, the more we all realize how small the world is.
